  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    Per , Madrid and Ancelotti have reached an agreement over his departure that will allow him to take the Brazil job before the 2026 World Cup. His exit had been dependent on the two parties reaching an agreement over the terms of his exit, and the payment he will receive.

    Now that negotiations between manager and club have come to a conclusion, an official announcement is expected before the end of the season. Xabi Alonso is the leading option to succeed the Italian, and the club will hope to have him appointed before the start of the Club World Cup in June.

    Ancelotti had been expected to sign his contract with Brazil in April but the move stalled, because he had yet to formalise the terms of his Madrid exit. That final hurdle has now been removed, so he should be able to start work prior to the World Cup beginning in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
